I am Daniel.

How did I get here?

Well... first and foremost I've been an avid film lover my entire life. So much so that to this day, I have imbedded in my brain a fair amount of — some could say, useless movie knowledge.

I started off writing screenplays with nothing but an endless imagination, a wish and mostly naivety. Passion burned bright, but eventually my hunger for story grew into a starvation. The only cure was expansion into the written world.

For years I have had two sizeable projects waiting in the wings to be finished and developed further into novels.

So why am I here?

A writer who loves the visual of film and the poetry of prose. Why does building a small video game company make any sense?

Because I love games as well.

I am a Sega kid. Graduated to Sony and eventually to Steam, but one genre has stood out in my mind ever since I experienced it back there in the Sega days.

The side scrolling cinematic platformer.

I will be brutally honest here. I can't code, but I have a well rounded concept and desire to bring it forth into reality. With the advent of AI, I lost steam in my own writings. I know the pain and pleasure of creation, however I have debated the morals of using these tools for a while. And in the end, seen the power of what can be achieved.

Hear me when I say, I don't want to use AI to build a game or write my story. I want to use it to learn how one works so that I may build a vertical slice. To show to developers and artists far more talented at this gig than I, to communicate the story I wish to tell. So that I may bring it all together and produce, I hope, a memorable experience that might just sit in the halls of all the greats.

Can I achieve this?

We will find out together...

PRESENT

27 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 014

Hello world 👋
The website is now live!

25 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 013

I am now a Steamworks developer.

21 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 012

Signed up for the pro version of Claude. Continued to work on the website. Claude coding is super crazy! Not in a million years would I have been able to build and develop what is quickly becoming a pretty cool little website. I am very impressed!

19 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 011

I applied to become a Steamworks developer. In the meantime, whilst waiting for approval I have decided to work on a website design.

18 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 010

Registered my domains and set up my business email as hello@dedicatedcabs.com. Then began securing my social handles.

17 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 009

I spent a good long while trying to figure out a good name for my company. Side note: I love names, especially with multiple meanings. I usually start with a title and draw the essence of a story, characters and concept from it. What I have found which is quite challenging though, is trying to find something relatively unique that has not been taken. I went through a lot of ideas and nothing truly sang to me.

Lo and behold, after many iterations, I was amazed when I stumbled upon what you would now know as Dedicated Cabs. I actually could not believe it when I got it, as it hails from the old school arcade days, meaning: an original or factory-built machine designed to house just one specific game, featuring custom artwork, marquees, and specialized control panels built explicitly for that title.

I was excited. And so, Dedicated Cabs was born. A one man, independent video game company, whose mission is to bring a dedicated virtual experience to whoever wants to play.

15 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 008

Applied for an ABN and now I am a Sole Trader!

14 JUL 2026 — ENTRY 007

I learned to build a movement system, a standing jump and a momentum jump. I used a placeholder spritesheet from one of my favourite games — and which is also a large inspiration to Prototype #2 — so I could find what animations I would eventually need for my own game. I did run into problems in the way I set up my original animations in Construct, but then learned the power of a state machine!

Eventually, I burned through my 50 free events and arrived at something I was very happy with.

Of course, it was far from finished, but far out! I was impressed!! And all of this was achieved on next to no money. To move forward required spending some real hard cash and thus, I was convinced that I could bring Prototype #2 to life.

23 JUN 2026 — ENTRY 006

Enter Claude...

Claude proved to be the best fit for me in learning Construct 3. The free version gave me the ability to upload multiple photos. Soon, I was able to convince myself that utilising the enhancements of Claude to fast track my learning of Construct 3 would be, for the most part, a success.

22 JUN 2026 — ENTRY 005

Gemini proved better at tutorials as I could upload a photo of my event sheet and follow along. But again, I was capped at 1 photo per turn in the free model. It was giving me question marks in the code as well. I went back and forth with the process: photo, follow, mistake, etc, until eventually it proved frustrating enough for me to find another model.

My concept was strong in my mind and I did not want to give up on it.

5 JUN 2026 — ENTRY 004

After dabbling with ChatGPT, I used it for placeholder art and built a basic jump system. I then learnt about coyote time and jump buffer in Construct 3, but soon realised I was being guided and did not feel I actually needed them. Evidently, ChatGPT proved difficult to acquire a good tutorial process — for me at least. It gave me code that just did not match and confused me. I gave up on that iteration and went back to basics. I ventured toward Gemini.

23 MAY 2026 — ENTRY 003

I created a draft of what I wanted to achieve. Distinct level biomes were created. A main mechanic was developed and the core concept was brought to the forefront and into fruition.

22 MAY 2026 — ENTRY 002

I decided to pick Construct 3 as I discovered it is mostly a visual based system. I attempted to use ChatGPT to guide me through understanding the program along with YouTube videos and written tutorials so I could learn how to build my first ever vertical slice.

15 MAY 2026 — ENTRY 001

Prototype #1 developed into something far too ambitious for me. Lesson learned. Moving on. Original concept stripped back. Reconfigured into something more manageable for my burgeoning skill set.

Prototype #2 begins...

Dedicated Cabs is a one man independent studio at the moment, building original games for PC. I am very early in development and working on my first release.

Covering indie games in development, or want to be first in line once there's something to preview? Reach out directly — happy to answer questions or share progress as it happens.

Logo pack, key art, and a full press kit will go here once there's real art to share. Right now the honest press kit is: one dev, one game, early days.
